Bible Memorization

Have you considered memorizing verses from the Bible? Many Christians think that this practice is only for little children. As you would have observed even in the churches, kids come in the front and recite a verse or a passage but hardly any adult does it. For reasons like busyness, education, job and family and other distractions like games, social media and friends, memorization has become a lost art among the believers. Some neglect. Some resist. Some wonder. Only a few have this godly discipline.

So is it optional or is it mandatory? Should the young and old memorize? Is it important for all Christians? The answer is unequivocally “YES”. The Bible is for everyone, isn’t it? More than the children, it is for the adults for they are the ones who are to bring their children up in the discipline and instruction of the LORD (Eph. 6:4, Deut. 6:6-7). So here are the 10 reasons and benefits –

  1. It is commanded by God (Col. 3:16).
  2. It protects us from sin (Ps. 119:9-11).
  3. It makes us to pray effectively (Jn. 15:7, 1 Jn. 5:14-15).
  4. It gives us victory during the spiritual warfare (Eph. 6:10-20).
  5. It guides us in our decisions, our discernment and our direction (Ps. 119:105).
  6. It sanctifies us to consistently live a holy life (Jn. 17:17, Jn. 14:26).
  7. It helps us to defend the faith, the Gospel (1 Pet. 3:15).
  8. It equips us in evangelism to make disciples (Rom. 10:17).
  9. It provides us the knowledge to teach and correct others (Col. 3:16)
  10. It brings blessings as we constantly meditate (Ps. 1:1-2, Josh. 1:8)

Now that you are aware, go ahead and saturate your mind with God’s Word, not because you have to but you want to and not for anyone else but for your own sake for what else is worth remembering in your life more than the exalted Word!
